It is thought that Morgan inherited Vivian's authority, but in truth Vivian is an alternate good personality of Morgan's who Morgan developed as a way to cope with the conflicting roles given to her by her supernatural birth. She was a fairy of the lake and the evil polar opposite of Vivian, the Lady of the Lake, a " Great Mother" class fairy born from the inner sea of the planet. On the other hand, she is identified with Vivian, the fairy who endowed King Arthur with the holy sword and protected him after his death. In the ancient history of British Fairies, she was said to be the "Good Fairy of the Lake," but after compilation of Arthurian legends, she became regarded as a wicked woman who opposed King Arthur.
